One of the tours I was most eager to do in Vietnam was the trip to Tam Cuoc, because it's less touristy and takes us through a charming landscape. And the truth is, it didn't disappoint! Two and a half hours from Hanoi, we started by seeing the temples where the first dynasty of Vietnam was born.
After the historical part in Hoa Lu, which was the capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries, we take the tour of Tam Cuoc, where for two hours we are guided on a boat rowed by feet. It's incredible the technique and strength of the rowers.
My boat was rowed by a lady in her 50s, with contagious kindness.
Li, the rower who never stopped smiling.
During the tour, we are approached by boats selling food, and the way they convince you to buy something is by indicating that the food is for your rower. With my soft heart, I agreed to buy, after all, my guide was a sweetheart. But suddenly they had placed a lot of food on my boat, and I ended up paying something like 6 euros for some snacks. Be careful with this scheme, it's better to give a tip in the end.
The tour takes about two hours, and at the end, there's still the option to go biking through the rice fields of the village, take advantage because the landscape is worth it and even if you're not a great cyclist, the path is easy.
This tour departing from Hanoi cost $25 and can be a good option instead of the touristy Halong Bay.
